What people come for
Osteopath for back pain in Montreal
Back pain is the reason that brings the most people here. Low back pain, sciatica, a locked neck, a back that pulls on waking. Understanding the real cause can make all the difference. That is what the work at OptimumOsteo aims for.
The back does not work alone
The spine does not work in isolation. In front of it sit the nervous system and the organs. When tension settles around an organ, the nervous system answers with protective contractions that travel through the fascia and connective tissue into the muscles and vertebrae.
Each vertebra connects to specific organs through its nerve supply. An internal imbalance can therefore read as a local back pain. This is why low back pain often takes root in the pelvis or the abdomen, and why a purely local approach lets it come back.
What an osteopath for back pain looks at
I assess how your back moves within the whole body, and pinpoint exactly which sections are restricted. Hip mobility, how your feet carry you, your breathing and the movement of the diaphragm, the suppleness of the viscera, how your head sits on your neck. I also take into account what you are living through and your inner world. All of this plays a part in helping you regain your full mobility and expansion.
My practice combines osteo-articular, cranial, visceral and fascial techniques, within classical osteopathy, always applied to your needs.
The part your life plays
Not every contraction comes from a physical injury. Prolonged stress, a hard stretch of life, a load carried for a long time leave the nervous system under tension, and that tension sometimes shows up in the back.
Unexpressed emotional loads are particularly underestimated in the body’s full harmonisation. It is the mission of a holistic osteopathy to include the whole of human experience in that work, in order to release the body and give you back your movement.

What I get asked
How many sessions with an osteopath for back pain?
Recent pain often settles in one to three sessions, easily. Pain that has been there for years may take longer, because the body has built up limitations around it. A great osteopath should still make you feel an improvement at every session. I give you my impression at the first session rather than leaving you to guess. If nothing moves after three or four appointments, change practitioner.
Does osteopathy hurt?
The touch is sensitive and precise, not forceful. Some areas are tender when mobilised, and I tell you before. You can ask me to stop at any point. You may feel sore for a day or two afterwards, like after unfamiliar exercise.
Why does my back pain keep coming back?
Three reasons come up often. The first cause was never reached, and the work went where it hurt rather than where it was stuck. Or a load in your life persists and the body tightens again. Or your daily habits, working position, sleep and breathing put the tension back every week. A good osteopath for back pain should be able to tell you which of the three applies to you.
Is it covered by insurance?
RAMQ does not cover osteopathy in Quebec. Most private insurers reimburse it. I am an osteopath D.O., member of RITMA, and the receipt is issued on the spot at the end of the session.
Do I need a referral or an X-ray?
No, access is direct. If you already have imaging or a medical report, bring it, it helps. Otherwise we start with the assessment.
