Optimum protocol for cleansing the liver and detoxifying the body
Energy – Vitality – Clarity of mind
Need more energy? Need to release tension in the body? Need to optimize vitality and clarity of mind to focus on important projects? I’ve chosen to follow a protocol that helps detoxify my liver and cleanse toxins from my body. Following a protocol for one to three weeks, has optimized my organ function, released tension built by the accumulation of toxins and the stagnation of fluids, and thus re-establish optimal vitality and enhanced my ability to feel daily well-being as I surf the waves of life. Enter into a state of higher energy with this Optimum Protocol!
Optimum Protocol for liver detox
You have just entered a protocol to boost your vitality. The Optimum body and liver detoxification protocol that I offer you here is told to the “I” as a personal experience in order to avoid any medical confusion and the information contained in this text is purely for informational purposes and does not suggest nutritional advice, diagnosis, or how to cure anything.
Most people who come to see me in my practice of Osteopathy in Montreal could benefit from a liver detox. And when we say a liver detox, we really mean to optimize the detox pathways and functions of the liver and enhance the body to release unwanted toxins and molecules. We live in a world where pesticides, antibiotics, plastic PBA, fluorine, fungal diseases are all around us. Even eating organic is no longer 100% toxin free due to airborne pollution and cross contamination which can infiltrate soils, plants and groundwater. In addition, modern diets are often deficient in certain minerals or vitamins that interrupt the optimal functioning of the body. Unless you do precise blood and stool tests with a laboratory to test for heavy metals and the bacterial population of your digestive track, I believe it is a great idea to do an internal cleaning once or twice a year. Here I will share with you my plan to help my liver perform all 500+ hepatic functions, including, the clean-up of unwanted toxic particles and optimize digestion in order to maximize the assimilation of nutrients.
I have included links to find online the products I use, superfoods and supplements. Obviously, I always prefer to buy local to encourage the local economy. But when it’s impossible, or sometimes for convenience, I search online. It’s up to you to find what suits you best but you can assure of the quality of the products that i refer to!
Before the liver, Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, the ancestral medicine of several millennia, one of the main philosophies on health is based on the inevitable accumulation of amas, or toxins, in organs, lymph, cells and intra and extracellular fluid which blocks optimal functioning of body systems. These toxins can be environmental in nature, such as pesticides or antibiotics, but also can accumulate due to poor food choices, poor digestion, non optimal eating times, eating with emotions such as frustration or sadness, or eating when stressed or in a hurry. Does it ring a bell? All these choices alter digestion and digestive fire and cause the accumulation of toxins. The remedy is a deep detoxification of the body, hence the famous treatment called panchakarma, including sweating, detox with plants, various plant enemas and more.
The detox that I share with you includes a cleansing of the digestive tract. I choose this moment to take a few supplements to get heavy metals moving so that they can be expelled from my body. Heavy metals can inhibit numerous functions in the body. According to Dr. Thomas Cowan MD, a practitioner of anthroposophic and functional medicine, the presence of heavy metals in the body accentuates the negative effects of unnatural EMFs and 5G. To go deeper into the subject, you can read my article on the protection of EMFs and 5G by clicking here. However, if it is the first time that I do a complete detox, I won’t take these compounds because I want my body to be freer at first by performing a first body cleanse. Later I can take out the heavy metals. It is important that the detoxifying organs, the liver, the kidneys and the digestive tract are in good shape and cleared before doing such a process.
Since each individual is unique, with a body, a metabolism, a unique mind and a unique environment, it is always recommended to validate with a health professional before undertaking any protocol. For some, depending on the degree of toxin buildup in the body, they will experience more difficulty or side effects. However, from my experience, with a protocol like this, I can be sure that I can clear enough space in my body and get out enough toxins to find an energy source that was clogged and clear it up. When toxins condense in cells, they inhibit cell optimal functioning, and therefore, precious production of ATP. This ATP production supplies the necessary energy to allow the organs and our bodies as a whole to perform at their best. From an osteopathic point of view, it seems that detox allows the fasciae, these conjunctive tissues that envelope every structures of the body, to relax as if the mobility of the fluids they contain has improved, which produces a relaxing effect and an overall sense of well-being. The same goes for the brain, as the motor of the neurons get a boost to perform better, and faster, greater clarity is brought to the mind.
For someone whose intestinal mucosa environment has been severely affected by stressors or environmental toxins, it is imperative to undertake a protocol to repair the intestinal wall. Multiple allergies and the prevalence of autoimmune diseases are some effects of a porous membrane. Other symptoms can include skin problems, brain fog, depression, joint problems, all can result from this porosity which often reaches the blood-brain membrane and requires specific repair. You will find more on this subject in a future online protocol.
Optimal Detoxification Protocol
Preparatory week
Before taking any detox, it’s always best to be rested. As detoxifying the body puts some stress on the body, it is better to make sure you are rested, that your adrenal glands are healthy, that external stress is reduced and that you can take some time to be able to do detox. Especially since the exit of toxins at the cellular level and their release in the blood and the digestive tract can generate a more delicate emotional and mental space. Headache, brain fog, skin irritation, moodiness, irritability. Better to be able to be available to rest and sometimes be in your bubble especially at the beginning. But with experience, as well as an already less intoxicated body, it is easier to continue daily activities despite the detox.
It is ideal to consume only organic products to minimize the accumulation of environmental toxins. As well, the choice to eat organic and fair is also a vote for the protection of our fragile environment, soil protection and human rights.
Food to remove
So during my preparatory week, here is what I remove:
- I remove conventional allergens because they can create unnecessary stress on the digestive tract and body inflammation. For some, even if no symptoms are apparent, their effects are sometimes insidious and support other chronic diseases.
Gluten, Peanut, dairy, Corn, Soy
- I remove the red meat, it activates the mTor network, which in turn inhibits apoptosis and cellular repair, in addition to creating for some, a certain agitation of the mind and bodily tensions, particularly in the heart .
- I remove all simple sugars, they put unnecessary stress on the body by activating cortisol and destabilizing blood sugar. I’m removing poor quality monounsaturated and polyunsaturated oils, which are considered more damaging to the body than the sugar itself. Among these are all trans oils, canola, sunflower, palm oil, soy, peanut and polyunsaturated oils in cooking such as olive oil etc. I concentrate my intake of good fat with coconut oil, avocado oil, raw olive oil, oils rich in DHA, and oils with a high content of omega 3 such as hemp and flax of good quality. I also avoid eating lots of nuts during the day, which are quite heavy on the liver, and I soak my nuts and seeds to facilitate digestion and absorption.
- I remove stimulants such as coffee, tea and cocoa to allow complete rest of the adrenal glands and allow the body to recover. It allows you to slow down and it’s true, at the beginning, you can come into contact with fatigue, which is the reality of the body. After a few nights of rest and a healthy diet, the body recovers. To optimize sleep, I have a full blog on the best strategies for sleeping like a baby that you can read by clicking here!
- Alcohol, obviously to remove from the body
- Nuts and seeds unsoaked. Nuts are difficult on the liver and digestion, unless you soak them for about 8 hours and therefore starts the germination process. The fats and proteins in the nuts begin to be pre-digested and the anti-nutrients such as phytic acid and lectins are released into the soaking water. The only seeds that do not require soaking are hemp seeds and ground flax.
In summary, what I’m removing
- Red meat
- Dairy products
- Gluten, Corn, Soy, Peanut
- Coffee, tea, cocoa
- Simple sugar, except honey
- Poor quality mono or polyunsaturated oils
- Nuts and seeds unsoaked
- Alcohol
Strategies for my detox
Then, I adopt a few practices that get me on the right track by preparing the organism and giving space for digestion and repair of the body.

I am starting to :
- Refrain from eating 3 hours before bed and not after 8 pm
- Practice an intermittent fast lasting 14 to 18 hours, and then after supper until the next morning
- Drink 1 liter of water on an empty stomach in the morning with chlorophyll and lemon
- I make sure to do a few exercise sessions a week, to stimulate the lymph, a network of waste transport in the body that only activates with movement. It can sometimes be as simple as jumping in place by doing some jumping jacks, doing a few sprints outside, a yoga practice, squats or push-ups at a moment of the day. In fact any activity that moves the body and activates the heart.
To facilitate the elimination of the digestive track, I next:
- Take 2 tablespoons of Psyllium Soup in the morning with plenty of water so that the mixture is very liquid (in addition to the liter of water I drink)
- I take 2 Tablespoons of chia well soaked in my day
- If nothing change in my intestinal transit in the morning, i will add ½ – 1 Teaspoon of Triphala in the evening before bedtime, this classic Ayurvedic mixture designed for detoxification and to accentuate the emptying of the tube. Very efficient.
I will do this every day for 7 days. This will start flushing out the digestive track and creating some space for the next steps.
Detox Week 1 to 3
My optimal detoxification protocol can be done over several weeks by including several of its strategies intermittently or simultaneously. It depends on tastes, the level of detox we want to do, the ability of the body to accept the effects of detox and external conditions. Here are some of the strategies, always including emptying the digestive tract in order to eliminate toxins from the body as quickly as possible. Obviously, I keep the good habits taken in the preparatory week in terms of diet, sleep and daily exercise. You will find attached a list of the products I use and if you want, and the link to buy them online.
1- Cleaning the digestive tract
As the toxins are put back into circulation in the blood, they seek to be evacuated via the detoxification routes of the body; skin, kidneys and urine, digestive tract and large intestine. I then make sure to activate the cleaning of the tube which will allow the evacuation of most of the toxins by combining the following tactics:
- 2 tablespoons of Psyllium in the morning or during the day with plenty of water
- ½ – 1 Teaspoon of Triphala in the evening before bedtime. I’m taking this triphala capsule brand 3-4 caps every night when i don’t want to use the powder, it’s pretty harsh to drink for most people.
coffee beans for enemas grain de café pour énémas de café - An enema of coffee. Yep, I know that this is not what we always expect and it is surprising, but it is the most effective way to empty the tube and the toxins spilled in it. The enemas are the basis of purification in panchakarma in Ayurvedic medicine and I would not do without it in a detox. To learn more about the stages and advantages of coffee enemas, see my blog by clicking here. You will find lots of studies that relate the beneficial effects of enemas, like the increase in production of Glutathione by the liver, an antioxidant par excellence of the body. As i’m getting use to this practice, i find it’s a very good choice to use a kit made with inox to not inject cheap PBA plastic from most kit up in my body. I like the investment of this quality enema kit.
- I Make sure to drink 1L of water on an empty stomach in the morning, with chlorophyll and lemon or apple cider vinegar as extra (except for sensitive teeth) and 1L of water the rest of the day.
2- Plants to detox
There are a variety of plants to enhance the functions of the liver and others to induce the extraction of toxins stored in cells. They can be combined. Here are the ones I like to use:
Liver Protectors
Some plants are really enhancing the liver functions without detoxifying specifically. I like to use these herbs as a foundation.

- Milk thistle, in extract equivalent to 1000mg capsules 3-4 times a day. I like the brand St-Francis, a local biodynamic farm in Ontario, and their Milk Thistle capsules are great.
- Turmeric, often in capsules or powder, 1-2 teaspoon. In capsule, I will use the superb meriva curcumin from Intelligent Labs, a company on the cutting edge of health. This kind of curcumin is one that has a much higher absorption rate than regular turmeric extract capsules.
Plants to detoxify deeper
To deeply detoxify, I prefer to use capsules of an excellent supplement combining several plants such as dandelion, artichoke, black radish, oregon grape root etc. rather than isolated plants. There are plenty of capsules, powders or ampoules on the market that can work really well. It’s often about using a quality brand. I use for my part:
Green superfoods
To extract more toxins, I use super alkaline green herbs and mixtures with a binder like activated charcoal to immediately take the toxins in circulation and prevent them from relocating.
- Chlorophyll in 1 L of water in the morning on an empty stomach
- Powdered or fresh herb juice, such as wheatgrass, barley and oats.
spoon of spirulina algae powder on wooden background, top view - Green supplement including wild plants, algae, herb juices etc. Two brands that I like very much for their great price/quality ratio are the Subi Greens blend and the Naturelo Greens superfoods. I just combine both or alternate!
- Spirulina, a must to have for its amazing energising quality and as a highly assimilated complete protein. A easy way to have it is to blend hemp seed, some coconut milk, the spirulina and some honey. I’m using this great spirulina from Sevenhills Wholefoods, great price and great quality!
- Activated charcoal, as a binding agent. ½ to 1 tsp with each other compound
Simple tip # 1: The morning I decide to make an enema to empty the large intestine, I take the opportunity the day before to take a little more detoxifying plants because I know that toxins and cellular waste will not stay long in the digestive tract.
For heavy metals
In my experience it is best to extract heavy metals after having already completed at least one detox protocol. It always depends on the degree of toxin accumulation but I prefer to do a first cure just for the liver and cellular toxins before attacking the heavy metals in a second cure. We have to make sure that the eliminating organs are healthy and ready, otherwise the heavy metals are relocated and can disturb your health even more. I make sure to use activated charcoal so that it can bind to heavy metals right away. I had a fairly severe taste of toxic effects with a poorly designed heavy metal detox over 10 years ago. This is a technique in itself that will be the subject of another protocol soon, but just to give you an overview, I use
- Clay like zeolite, or white clay like Sacred Clay from Vitality Herbs and Clay, in small quantities because it is a strong detox, ½ tsp.
- Chlorella, 5-15g, using this chlorella from Sevenhills Wholefoods in powder.
- Algae
- Activated charcoal, as a binding agent. ½ to 1 tsp with each other compound
3 – Fasting for all
Already with an intermittent fast, the body has more space to go into apoptosis and clean up. The liver loves it. With fasts extended from 24 to 72 hours, the body enters even more into reconditioning. With even longer fasts, such as green juice fasts, if it is your often best to be supervised, or at a retreat center like Tree of Life or Hippocrates in Florida. The easiest way is to fasting plan, like a KetoFast, Chicken Broth Fast or a single fruit single diet, which are easy to plan yourself. You can also do a liquid diet for 1 to 3 days. I like in all these forms of fasting or dieting to add essential amino acids (EAAs) which serve as proteins, green juices in the extractor full of vitality, enzymes and nutrients, and oil of MCT which supports the body in anti-inflammatory ketones (ketones). After the fast, the first meal may include simple digestible foods such as white rice, a clean source of carbohydrate without lectin, and cooked vegetables, or some fresh fruits. Feeding the microbiota after fasting with probiotics or yogurt is also a cornerstone! Here are different styles of fasting I like to practice alternately and according to my needs.
- Fasting with Chicken Bone Broth
Extremely rich in amino acids, collagen, nourishing and repairing. It gives space for digestion as the mechanical aspect is inhibited. Can be done easily from 24 to 72 hours. You can even add chicken broth protein to the broth, at which point, the fast becomes very easy to do. This is the easiest cure for an athlete who wants to maintain muscle mass. By including essential amino acids (EAAs) up to 30 grams per day (equivalent to 90 grams of protein assimilated to 99%), with chicken bone broth protein, perhaps a little oil, this fasting process leaves enough room for the body to recover and stay in ketosis, while keeping as much muscle as possible. In any case, once the cure is finished, the digestive system will be more efficient and cleaner. Nutrient absorption will improve and it will be easy to recover the lost pounds.
- Ketofast
Doctor Joseph Mercola MD developed Ketofast. By consuming less than 150 or 200 calories in a single meal of the day, composed of fat, vegetables and a little protein, our bodies are allowed to stay in ketosis (ketosis). This caloric restriction activates anti-inflammatory responses and repairs cell tissue in the space of one to three days.
- Monodiet
Through the ages it has always been a favorite way to re-harmonize the body, connect to its real hunger instinct and do a cleanse. Often practiced in Europe with grapes, the founder of GreenMed.com Sayer Ji offers a diet of apples to recalibrate the body, nourish the intestinal flora and give information to the body via the natural exosomes of this fruit. One to three days.
- Vegan liquid fast
An easy to do treatment that gives plenty of space for digestion and resting the organs. We remove the animal products, the grains and the starchy foods, and we pass everything to the blender. Fruits, vegetables, oils, soaked nuts, sprouts etc. Go to my blog to see more details of the 3-day liquid diet by clicking here.
- Intermittent evening fasting
An intermittent fasting strategy but in the evening this time. It’s not the same feeling as in the morning. In the morning it’s easier not to eat, put on a coffee or tea and start our day. In the evening, it’s more difficult to skip supper, such a comforting and family meal. But for the liver, it’s great. Having finished digestion well before bed and allows the body to optimize repair and detox functions and yield an unparalleled effect the next morning. By stopping eating at 2pm, one can fast from 18h hour easily, and the energy discovered upon waking is noticeable.
- Fasting with fresh juice
cure de jus frais pour le foie
For a period of one to three days, we can include a “juice fast,” a fast exclusively composed of fresh fruit and vegetable juice. This generally requires a good juice extractor. A good juicer can be an excellent lifelong investment. I especially like using my Omega extractor. You can orchestrate the juice fast as you like, using only very detoxifying green juices; cucumber, celery and kale for example. Or you can combine fruit juices like apple and grape, mixed vegetables like red cabbage or fennel, and green leaves like parsley and kale. However, be careful not to vary your blood sugar too much with sweet juice. Let’s avoid commercial pasteurized juices and go to fresh juices, with the extractor containing all their properties.
- Fasting, tailor-made
I like to make it tailor-made, combining a little of all these strategies. For 36 hours, I will take a green juice, fresh from the day, EAAs, a decaf coffee or golden turmeric milk drink with a little Coconut oil and MCT, some chicken bone broth and lots of water with chlorophyll and lemon. It’s really easy to do for a full day.
4 – Feeding the microbiome
I like to be sure to boost the population of my precious bacterial flora, especially by practicing enema. During the detox, I use a daily quality probiotic supplement like:
Otherwise, I make my own coconut yogurt by fermenting it with good quality probiotics like those from “Intelligentlabs Probiotics” that contain multiple strains as I can’t use the previous one because of the adaptogenic plants and fruit extract it contains.
5 – Optimum Minerals
I also like to take a multivitamin, to optimize all the functions of my body with a full spectrum of minerals with added magnesium.
- Naturelo Multivitamine, not too expensive and of good quality in my opinion
- Magnesium biglycinate 500mg from Sapphire Organics, I take 2-3 per day. In addition to all the benefits of having an adequate intake of Magnesium, which is used in hundreds of functions in the body and mainly absent or deficient in soils used for agriculture, it could also partially protect me from the toxic effects of EMFs on calcium pumps in cells (see in my article on the protection of EMFs and 5G by clicking here).
6 – Diet for detox
Leaving toxins in the blood and intestines can make you less hungry, or alter your appetite. You can also feel heavy in your stomach or bloated, until you are ready to sit on the throne. Therefore, it is very important to listen to yourself body and eat a diet that supports your detox. Obviously, we can make the cure by being vegetarian, vegan or raw in the summer, or by incorporating animal proteins, according to the tastes of each.
However, by removing layers of animal products from the diet, one enters more and more in body awareness and sensitivity to one’s body and mind. First by removing the meats and doing a vegetarian diet for detox. For a detox, it’s always better. And then by removing all that remains as animal products such as dairy products and bone broth. In the vegan mode, it clears the mind and heart even more. Like a feeling of brightness or like a fresh wind coming in through an open door. But it is really in the experience that we can feel it!
Simple Tip # 3: The more my diet is based on vegetables, sprouts, fruits, mixtures of green superfoods, the more I mineralize my body and the more it detoxifies the liver and my body. By adhering to this diet all day long, the detox process goes much faster. If I add grains and animal products like chicken or fish, it nourishes, but it detoxifies less. I can play with this during the detox. You will be able to see in the next protocol the strategies to remineralize the body completely.
What I include in my diet during the detox:
- Soups
alimentation pour la detox – diet for setox - Green smoothies
- Green juices fresh from the juicer
- Chicken bone broth
- Salads and salads
- Steamed and sautéed vegetables
- Rice, White rice, buckwheat, soaked quinoa, sweet potatoes, in small quantities
- Chicken if needed in small quantities
- Hemp protein, hemp, chia, flaxseed
- Nuts soaked in salad or ground in milk
- Sprouts of all kinds
- Spirulina
- Seaweed
- Miso, Sauerkraut and Kim Chi
After the detox
After one, two or three weeks, I feel the difference. More energy, more vitality, a clearer mind, a lighter heart.
The detox has done well, cleared the body, released tension and restored more vitality and energy. Ok so how do I start everyday life again? Obviously, no matter what life choices you make, unless you are on a white sand island, in deep peace and eating organic with the birds, the toxins will accumulate again anyway. One of the foundations is to limit exposure to environmental toxins as much as possible by making conscious consumption choices for the body, the environment and fellow humans. It’s easier than ever to eat organic, to have access to shopping groups to save money, and to make choices to avoid exposure to toxic products contained for example in household products, paints, household materials, and plastics etc. Heavy metals themselves, are still present in poor quality dental amalgams, paints, vaccines, in city water, etc. It is then up to us to make the choices to transform the planet and our health.
Here are the strategies I use to help support daily detox and avoid an overload of toxins while optimizing my daily energy and the demands of my body.
The basics of my diet:
- Intermittent fasting daily 14-18h
- Refrain from eating after 8pm or after sunset except on special occasions
- Practice a biological anti-inflammatory diet, cyclic ketogenic. In other words, combine all my sugars, carbohydrates and carbohydrates in a single meal, in the evening.
- Continue to drink a lot of water in the morning with chlorophyll and lemon
- Consume rich salads with green plants and quality oils
- Consume an optimal amount of protein per day, between 0.55 and 0.8g per pound of weight
- Consume a little bit of white clay every day
- Take a green superfood supplement every day
- Continue the magnesium supplement
- Consume turmeric as often as possible with sometimes milk thistle also which protects the liver without detoxifying it too much
- Eat little or no red meat
- Refrain from eating simple refined sugar, unless the dessert is intended for a special occasion
- Consume only quality oils and fats
- Refrain from using stimulants, or reserve them for specific moments and with purpose
Some basics for Optimum Lifestyle
- Eat alone, and be present with your foods without stress or
- Eat in community, and appreciate the pleasure of sharing
- Exercise daily
- Yoga, meditation, chi-gong
- Breathwork and pranayamas
- 1 enema of coffee per week
- Sauna and sweating as often as possible
- Expressing emotions and letting them pass, such as anger, sadness and fear and all the color ranges associated with them
- Sleep deeply
- Be able to live your dreams, create, love, help others and the planet. Find optimal strategies for both body and mind that aim for happiness! And it’s always a little easier with a body that surfs the waves of life, vibrant, strong and flexible, relaxed and healthy.
A final Word
It’s all about playing with the stages of the detox. Once you have grasped the principle and the experience; taking the plants that detox, lightening the diet, and emptying the digestive tract, we can find the best way to adapt it! Knowing and remembering that during the detox, we sometimes feel worse, heavy, irritated sometimes or tired, but it passes and after vitality come back stronger than before!
